Help for the Poor orphanage & school in Cambodia, has been unable to secure sponsorship for 2008 & the previous 2 year arrangement comes to an end this month. Yes I really mean putting food on plates and clothes on bodies stuff here! UI have been sent a budget to consider and it basically takes $1500US to run the place which in the big scheme of things I don't think is a lot. That's $18,000US a year which is about $25,000 NZ , some people spend that on a car or boat over here. There are approx 30 children supported at the orphanage which just gets the bare basics, as you can see from the photos. The childen are aged from 6 up to high school age. Their school has up to 70 preschool and primary school age children attend from around the community. I have been there and they squeeze these children into one building with an iron roof which just bakes in the heat as it isn't lined. Anyway I would like to do something about this & even if its month by month I think it is achieveable from our abundant resources here in NZ.
$60 NZ per month pays for the complete care of one child at Help for the Poor
$15 NZ per month pays for the educational needs of a child at Help for the Poor.
